Two bills that would allow superintendents to designate a person or persons to conceal and carry a weapon or firearm in district schools are gaining legislative speed.<\/p>\n

House Bill 19 and Senate Bill 180, named \u201cSchool Safety,\u201d are moving through the committee process, inching closer to Gov. Rick Scott\u2019s desk for approval.<\/p>\n

The companion bills give school superintendents, with school board approval, the option to appoint a designee with previous experience in law enforcement or the military to carry a weapon or firearm, which must be concealed.<\/p>\n
